Cat Owners: Beware of Easter Lilies!
April 2, 2010

The doctors and staff at Cat Care Clinic want all cat owners to be aware that Easter Lilies are toxic to cats. Ingesting even a small portion of the leaves, stem or flower of the plants can cause kidney failure and potentially death.
These plants are brought into our homes to brighten our lives and usher in spring. While not a problem for dogs, cat owners need to be aware that the consequences can be devastating, even fatal, to our feline family members.
Symptoms include vomiting, loss of appetite, and depression. If your cat exhibits any of these symptoms or if you suspect that your cat has ingested any part of an Easter lily seek veterinary care immediately. With prompt treatment, full recovery is possible.

To avoid potentially fatal ingestion, consider alternatives to Lilies. Plants such as the Gerber Daisy are safe, and the many bright colors available are a great way to bring that feeling of spring into our homes. For more information on other non-toxic plants, please visit the
ASPCA website.
Your friends at Cat Care Clinic ask you to please share this with all cat owners you know.
